HAS BEEN RESCHEDULED
TO AVOID SUMMER VACATION CONFLICTS AND ENSURE THAT STUDENTS GET THE OPPORTUNITY TO FINISH THIS PROGRAM WE ARE RESCHEDULING THE FINAL TWO (2) PROGRAMS FOR AFTER SCHOOL ON SEPTEMBER 5 AND SEPTEMBER 12. STUDENTS WHO HAVE ATTENDED AT LEAST ONE (1) SUMMER LIFESKILLS TRAINING AND BOTH AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAMS WILL BE INVITED TO AN AFTER-HOURS LIBRARY PIZZA PARTY.
This summer students entering grades 4th-6th will have the opportunity to participate in a program on Fridays that will feature a curriculum offered and facilitated by the Area Substance Abuse Council known as LifeSkills Training. We feel this will be an informative, engaging, and worthwhile opportunity for all of our students. The group will meet once a week on Fridays at 1pm on June 21, 28, July 12, 26, August 2, 9, 16. The Lifeskills Training will last 45 minutes followed by 45 minutes of hands on activities and library time. Activities will include making their own snacks, games and crafts. Program will end at 2:30pm.
Lifeskills Training is an evidence-based curriculum that takes a comprehensive and dynamic approach to promote positive youth development. The goals of this program include promoting personal self-management skills, general social skills, and also drug resistance skills. The program aims to give students the confidence and skills necessary to handle challenging situations by resisting things such as peer pressure, coping with stressors and anxiety, and ultimately developing a greater self-esteem and self-confidence. By the end of the program, students should have increased their knowledge of the consequences of substance abuse while also being able to successfully resist such pressures.
Students will be given a confidential survey before and after the program, meant to measure the outcomes and effectiveness of the program in relation to substance abuse attitudes. Results will not be shared, and are solely for the use of the facilitating agency, the Area Substance Abuse Council.
If you have questions regarding the program, you are encouraged to contact the group facilitator, Jeffrey Meyers, by calling (319) 390-1884 or via e-mail at firstname.lastname@example.org or Library Director, Nikki Rushford, by calling (563) 488-3975 or via e-mail at email@example.com.
